Rahul Gandhi

During an interaction with students in Pune, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that what is great about India is its students and their capabilities.

Here are the highlights from his interaction:

  • From truth comes humility and from humility comes courage
  • Our manifesto is not an expression of the Congress party, it is an expression from all the stakeholders of the country. The concept of NYAY has come from the people of India
  • China is producing 50,000 jobs in 24 hours and India is losing 27,000 jobs in 24 hours
  • We should identify and respect the skills in India and target it with finances and political support:
  • ₹3,50,000Cr was the amount written off for 15 richest businessmen in India. Why should 15 people get access to unlimited amount of money when nobody else in India has access to it
  • ₹3,50,000Cr was the amount written off for 15 richest businessmen in India. Why should 15 people get access to unlimited amount of money when nobody else in India has access to it? NYAY is about fairness
  • I want to guarantee you that money for NYAY will not come from middle class and income tax will not be raised. The money for NYAY will come from the people who have dominated the banking system

  • 33% of Parliament and State Assemblies will be reserved for women when we come to power. 33% of all jobs at the national level will be reserved for women
  • Unfortunately, Demonetisation was a disastrous idea. Millions of jobs were lost and economy was jammed shut. We want to give new entrepreneurs access to banking and exemption from seeking permission for the first 3 years
  • 22 lakh government jobs are lying empty. We need to build infrastructure for education and healthcare and this will be fulfilled by filling up vacancies
  • We believe that India needs an institution that strategically thinks about what India needs to do at a global level and that is the nature of Planning Commission. NITI Aayog was restricted to tactics that could be done by States
  • Government today has given up its responsibility for healthcare and education. We will put in more money into these sectors and build high quality institutions at district and block levels
  • Over the last 5 years, there have been dramatic cuts in expenditure for education and healthcare sector
